* BABYLON 5 JUMPGATE VERSION 2 *
**********************************
June 10, 1994
Thanks for downloading this archive of a version 2 BABYLON 5 JumpGate
model in the Video Toaster LightWave 3D format, hand modeled under
version 2.0 software by the author and originally uploaded to Ron
Kramer's OBSTACLE ILLUSION BBS, Grand Rapids, MI, (619) 791-2109.
This archive contains ALL the model elements needed to construct a
hyperspace vortex JumpGate as seen on the BABYLON 5 space adventure
series. Included is a fully assembled JumpGate and the hyperspace
vortex with accompanying IFF surface image maps.
The following original and unaltered files are contained herein:
JUMPGATE.DOC - This document.
JumpGateForm.scn - 200 frame LightWave 2.0 render ready scene of
a forming JumpGate vortex.
JumpGateComplete - The complete JumpGate assembly minus the vor-
tex.
JumpGatePanel - Solar collector panel and supports which fit
in between each rail section.
JumpGateRailSection - Assembly of the basic elements making up a
section of a JumpGate rail. Consists of a
frame support assembly, frame tubes, and a
plasma(?) storage unit.
VortexFlat - A flat grid object of triangle polys that is
morphed to the VortexSpiral object.
VortexSpiral - The spiraled funnel morph target object for
VortexFlat.
VortexRimFlat - A portion of VortexFlat used to morph the rim
of the vortex.
VortexRimSpiral - The spiraled morph target object for Vortex-
RimFlat.
VortexSurf.brs - A tiny 24-bit IFF image used as a Cylindrical
transparency map for the main vortex body.
VortexRimSurf.brs - A tiny 24-bit IFF image used as a cylindrical
transparency map for the rim of the vortex.
JumpGate.jpg - A sample Jpeg'd 24-bit IFF of frame 200 from
the included scene.
006.FS.90IREWhite - Framestore format white foreground image used
to 'simulate' 3.0/3.1 high intensity light
flashes.
After unarchiving, place VortexSurf.brs and VortexRimSurf.brs in your
:TOASTER/3D/IMAGES/BRUSHES/ drawer. Place the JumpGate objects/model
in your :TOASTER/3D/OBJECTS/SPACE/ drawer. Place JumpGateForm.scn
file in your :TOASTER/3D/SCENES/ drawer. Put framestore 006 in an
accessable place and chose it when LW says it can't find it in the
default :FRAMESTORE drawer.
BEFORE loading the scene, make a simple 1 meter sphere and put it in
:TOASTER/3D/OBJECTS/MISC. I made use of 9 of these spheres to simu-
late 3.0/3.1's visable light sources and halos in 2.0. LW will also
choke trying to load an object called LensFlare. Just cancel the
loading of a replacement object. I HIGHLY recommend loading the
spheres, though, as dissolve envelopes and motion paths have been
defined and are good to use when replacing with actual light sources
for you 3.x users. The envelopes and paths will be lost if these
objects (or similar replacements) are not loaded. They properly TIME
the "firing" of the JumpGate energizers. Refer to and take note of
the dissolve envelopes for spheres 1, 2, and 6.
The COLOR of the vortex is PALE BLUE when ships EXIT the JumpGate and
PALE YELLOW when ships ENTER. The vortex spirals INWARD (positive
texture velocity) for entrances and OUTWARD (negative texture veloc-
ity) for exits. These colors are defined under Surface Color for the
Vortex and VortexRim surfaces.
